Laurence Arthur (Larry) HALSEY

December 6, 1921-July 18, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Laurence Arthur (Larry) Halsey at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Andrée Brabant for 25 years, he also leaves to mourn him his sister Theresa Mendham of Winnipeg, his niece Catherine (Herbert Mattern) of Ottawa and his sister-in-law Madeleine Brabant of Town of Mount-Royal. He will also be sorely missed by the many many friends he made throughout his long life.

Larry was born in Winnipeg and worked in the accounting department of the CNR until he joined the Canadian Air Force during WWII (Radar) at the age of 18. He spent four years in England and Scotland. On his return to Winnipeg at the end of the war, he rejoined the CNR, again in the accounting department. In the early 50's, he left for Sept-Iles and joined the Iron Ore Company of Canada as their chief accountant.

He came to the Montreal Head Office of the company in 1967 as assistant to the President and retired in 1981 at the age of 60. Thus, he was involved in all phases of the building of the Towns of Sept-Iles, Labrador City and Schefferville from streets and roads, to churches, schools and shopping centers.

Larry loved classical music and was Honorary Treasurer of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra for a few years. He was also very active in the Westmount Lawnbowling Club where he could be seen every summer day practicing the sport he loved. The family wishes to thank most warmly Florence Benjamin who has been the most wonderful caregiver for many months and the two overnight nurses Denise and Stepanka who did all they could to help make him comfortable during his last month at home. We also wish to thank the staff of the CLSC Metro Palliative Care and particularly Nurse Natasha Sniatowsky who provided such wonderful care and support.

Visitation at the Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd. (corner Isabella) on Wednesday, July 21 from 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Matthias Anglican Church, 10 Church Hill, Westmount, on Thursday, July 22 at 10h30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
