Hooton, Margaret Margaret Hooton, retired associate professor of nursing, McGill University, died peacefully and with great dignity on August 25, 2018 in the Palliative Care Unit at the Glen site of the McGill University Health Centre. Throughout her career she had a consummate commitment to university education as the future of the profession. This orientation was intertwined with the development of supportive curricula and reshaping clinical practice. Her expertise in integrating these disparate perspectives resulted in her being in demand as a teacher, visiting professor and consultant provincially, nationally and internationally.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents Lloyd and Ethel, her brother Lorne her sister Dorothy and her brother -in - law Roger Nothey. She is survived by her sister Marie Lord ( George ) ,sister-in-law Marion Hooton, nephew Rob Hooton ( Mary Ann ) , nieces Lana Tisdale ( Stuart ) , Saundra Gellatly ( Doug ) , Judith Ainge ( Jason ) , and several great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at St. James United Church in Montreal on Saturday September 8, 2018 at 11 AM. Donations may be made to Friends of McGill University Library (Nursing), Parkinson Canada, and the Palliative Care Unit of the McGill University Health Centre or a charity of one’s choice.
