ROWEN nee Winchester, Jean.
Jean Rowen passed away peacefully on Feb. 23, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal. She was surrounded by her family. Jean was born on Nov. 5, 1913 in Montreal to Frederick Winchester and Jean Brown, both originally from Scotland. She grew up in Outremont, QC alongside her sister Gertrude (Bill Ashley), with whom she continued a close relationship until Gertrude‘s passing in 2011.
In December 1992, Jean celebrated 60 years of marriage with James Patrick Rowen, formerly of Ottawa, before his passing in 1993. They met during the early 1930's while working in neighbouring buildings on St. James Street (rue, St. Jacques). For many years she worked as a secretary and a homemaker. Jean lived her entire life in Montreal and enjoyed celebrating her 100th birthday with family and friends. She was an active bridge player until 102 years, and always enjoyed the company of people.
She is survived by her son Jim (Anne); grandchildren John, Peter and David (Antonietta); great-grandchildren, Matthew, Emma, Francesca and Gabriella; nephews and niece Bill (Nancy), Don (Barbara) and Linda. She will be missed by all.
Visitation will take place at Kane Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, QC H3W 3C4 on Wednesday, March 1st from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A celebration of Jean’s life will take place on Thursday, March 2 at 10 am at St. Monica's Parish, 6405, rue de Terrebonne, Montreal, QC H4B 1A8.
