Patrick Wilson Rourke
(1932 – 2017)
On March 18th, after a very courageous battle with cancer, Patrick passed away peacefully, with his children by his side. Patrick was a leader of the English community in Montreal, a dean of executive search in Canada, and a devoted family man. Patrick was predeceased last June by his beloved wife of 56 years Alanna, and by his much loved eldest daughter Maureen (Ken), in 2015. He is survived by his children Michael (Nathalie), Jackie, and Andrea (Gary). He was the proud grandfather of Kevin (Rachel), Ryan, Liam, Tim, Meaghan, Shannon, David, Emma, Jack and Grace, and delighted great-grandfather of John and Lochlan. Raised in London, Ontario as one of six children, he is survived by dear brother John and much-loved sisters-in-law, and predeceased by siblings Terry, Janet, Brian and Charles. Pat was dearly loved by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members and cherished friends.
Pat earned his MBA at Western University. He founded the executive search firms Rourke, Bourbonnais & Associates, later Rourke, Lizotte & Associates, then P.W. Rourke International. With offices in Montreal, Toronto, and Calgary, he placed hundreds of middle and senior executives, and trained dozens of consultants in the industry. Pat was equally passionate about community service, and recruited countless people to volunteer their time in numerous community organizations. Together with Alanna, he volunteered for over 40 years at St. Mary’s Hospital, serving as President of its Board of Directors, Foundation, and Board of Governors. With other concerned community members, he founded the English Speaking Catholic Council of Quebec, and served as its first President. For almost 30 years, Pat served on the boards of the Montreal St. Patrick’s Foundation, and the St. Patrick’s Society. Other organizations that benefitted from his leadership include the Foundation of Catholic Community Services, Sacred Heart School of Montreal, Father Dowd Nursing Home, and Refuge Juan Moreno, a home for refugee women seeking asylum. Pat and Alanna’s community service was recognized with the Ignace Bourget Diocesan Award of Merit from the Archdiocese of Montreal, the Bishop Crowley Award from the English Speaking Catholic Council, and the St. Patrick Society’s Community Service Award. Pat was a passionate golfer-member at The Royal Montreal Golf Club for over 50 years. His final wish was to encourage more people to find ways of volunteering to experience the joy of serving one’s community.
Visitation at Kane Fetterly, 5301 Boulevard Decarie, Montreal, on Sunday, March 26 from 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass on Monday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Malachy's Church, (corner Isabella and Coolbrooke). Donations to the St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation (3830 Lacombe Ave., Mtl. H3T 1M5), or Nazareth House (1197 Seymour St., Montreal H3H 2A4) would be appreciated. The family gratefully thanks the staff of the Maxwell Residence, the West Island Palliative Care Centre, and Linda Robillard, CLSC, for their compassionate care.
