It is with deep sadness that we announce the departing of Eva Mary Alexandra Arber who left this life in her daughter’s arms on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 at the age of 91 years.
Eva was a remarkable woman and devoted mother and grandmother, full of strength, courage, and determination, who travelled the globe armed with one heavy trunk and an even heavier handbag. She had a dry sense of humor, a penchant for rum & raisin ice cream, and was lethal at backgammon. She could also easily evoke a no-nonsense attitude that would put Winston Churchill to shame. When she wasn’t working at the British Embassy in Cyprus or the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, she would fly off to some distant land to study, write, or teach depending on her mood. She believed in “touching wood”, was trilingual, and found Gregory Peck “rather handsome” every time he graced the screen. She was a walking song, full of compassion and intelligence, and will be deeply, deeply missed.
Beloved mother of Rowena, (John), Grandmother to Ben, Aunt to Greg, (Heather), Keith, Peter, Corinne, Alec and Derek, and half-sister to Gladys, Jim and Geoff… she joins her sister Clara and brother Harold.
Visitation from 9:00 am to 11 am and Service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm is this Friday, November 21st at Kane and Fetterly, 5301 Boul. Decarie, QC, H3W 3C4.
