James Lawrence Webb, PhD
James Lawrence Webb, PhD, passed away in Montreal on January 20, 2015 at the age of 90 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Julie, and sons, Dr. Donald Webb of Roanoake, VA and Dr. Iain Webb (Dr. Michael Rosenzweig) of Boston, MA. He is also survived by his brother, George Murray of Calgary and his children, Deborah, Duane and Deanna, as well as by his sister, Patricia Ann Holland (Lonsdale) of Halifax and their children, W. Lonsdale, Melissa and Daniel. He is predeceased by his father, George D. Webb, mother, Marie Hopewell and step-mother, Jean Fitzpatrick Webb.
Jim was born in Halifax, NS and was educated in Nova Scotia, Massachusetts and Montreal, QC. He completed his PhD in Biochemistry at McGill University. After many years in medical research in Montreal and Glasgow, Scotland, he then led the clinical endocrinology laboratory at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal until his retirement. He remained interested in medical research, British naval history and books of all kinds and enjoyed golf, bowling and bridge during his retirement. Jim was an active member of St. Monica’s Parish and, with Julie, sang in the church choir for many years.
Cremation has taken place. The funeral mass will celebrated at St. Monica’s Parish, NDG, on Friday, January 23 at 11 am. Family members will receive friends beginning at 10:30 am. A reception at the church will follow the Mass. Burial will be arranged in Halifax, NS at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Vista Residence for their care and support.
