PATRICK VETTER (1957-2015)
Some people become entertainers, others are born to entertain.
That was Patrick. On stage as a professional musician or off stage among friends. Patrick thrived on making people laugh. He had an incredible ear. He could recall any tune, or mimic the most outrageous accent. With his saxophone, Patrick created a sound uniquely his own. He was versatile, easily moving from playing live with a Big Band to performing a solo at a recording session or leading his own group. Patrick performed with such greats as Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, Celine Dion and John Pizzarelli.
He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Music ’83 and as a teacher he went on to inspire young musicians at Queen’s University and College Lionel-Groulx.
Patrick loved good food, good wine and good friends. Dinner at Patrick’s table was pure joy. He took immense pleasure in creating the most exquisite meals. His Osso Buco was legendary. What he loved most of all was Helen. The foundation of their marriage was the ability to make each other laugh. And they did it for 26 years with great passion.
Suddenly, and without warning, on Feb 12th, he died at home of natural causes. Patrick is survived by his wife Helen Yee, a wonderful extended family and close friends. All who knew and loved him, including the Montreal music community, feel his loss deeply. Patrick, you lived well and were well-loved. As this next journey begins, we know you will always keep the music playing.
A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held at Kane & Fetterly, 5301 Boul. Decarie, (corner Isabella) Montreal on Saturday, Feb. 28th at 2pm. Visitation Friday Feb. 27th, 2-5pm and 7-9pm Flowers are welcome.
Donations in his memory can also be made to The Schulich School of Music of McGill University (555 Sherbrooke St. W, Montreal, QC H3A 1E3).
