Peacefully, at 79 years old, Jack (John Melbourne) O'Halloran passed away on October 28, 2015. He will be deeply missed by his wife of over 50 years, Di (Dianne Bacon), his children Lynne (Dominique) and John (Helena), his four grandsons, Justin, Nicholas, Ryan and Shane, as well as by his sister Barbara (Babs) Bignell (Hugh) and his many nieces and nephews.
Born in Quebec City, he moved to Montreal to attend McGill university, and never left.
Jack was an elegant, patient and wonderful man and a great father. He personified the word gentleman.
He had a warm, composed and quiet strength that was always a comfort to those around him. Long ago retired, Jack spent his entire career in the pulp and paper industry where he was well respected by his peers, many of whom he considered his good friends.
Jack wasn't a raconteur but was always quick with a laugh and fun to be around as he loved to have a good time surrounded by his many friends and his family. He loved to ski, sail, fish, play tennis, and later in his life he played golf. He especially loved to do these things when he was at his favorite places in the world: his home in Lac Des Chats and Siesta Key Florida.
His sense of humour never left him and, in spite of a lengthy battle with dementia, he always greeted family, visitors and staff with a warm smile.
Rest in peace. You are missed.
A memorial service will be held at Kane Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd., November 20, 2015 at 12:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Donations to McGill Centre for Studies in Aging would be appreciated.
