DAOULAS - Henry, Guillaume.
Died on 10th July 2016 in Montreal, Quebec.
Born in Morlaix, France in 1919, Henry answered the call to arms broadcast by General Charles de Gaulle. He escaped Nazi occupied France with fifteen other pilots travelling via Gibraltar to Scotland where they became the first members of the Free French, Groupe de Chasse, Ile de France, 340 fighter squadron flying spitfires under the command of the RAF. After having been shot down late in the war and no longer fit to fly combat, Henry nonetheless continued in active service as a test pilot - extraordinarily accumulating more than 2300 hrs during the course of the war. Henry Daoulas was awarded over 19 medals including the Croix de Guerre and Legion d'honneur.
Until his death, Henry was the last surviving member of the original sixteen Free French Air Corps, and his war and his achievements have been well documented in many books, periodicals and articles regarding WWII.
Henry was predeceased by his beloved wife Odile and is survived by his three children, Yves, Guy and Nicole, his grandchildren Mitchell, Joel, Ariane and Sasha and his great granddaughter, Sydney. A memorial service will be held in his honour in October.
