Sabourin (nee Farrington), Hazel.
Hazel Farrington Sabourin of Montreal, QC passed away on December 11, 2017. She was born in London, England, November 12, 1941 to Gladys and Vernon Farrington. Her family emigrated from England to Montreal in 1952 and lived in Ville Saint-Laurent. She married Raymond Sabourin in 1966 and had two children, Charles and Deborah.
Throughout her adult life, Hazel maintained two successful careers: one in commercial insurance and the other as a dedicated mother and care giver. In the Montreal insurance industry she worked for a range of firms including Eric Motzfeldt & Co. and BFL Canada, establishing many long-time friendships along the way.
She was a strong woman and taught her children how to be self-sufficient and independent. She travelled often with her best friend, Pat Pellerin of Burlington, VT; her favorite destination being her native England. She loved attending theatrical performances, especially Shakespeare. She was an avid reader, loved the ocean and taking family vacations to her beloved Wells, Maine. Her encyclopedic memory for nearly any subject – from history, literature and the arts to current events – including names, dates, and places, never failed her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond, who died in 1996. Hazel is survived by her son, Charles Sabourin of Laval and his wife Germana Martins; her daughter, Deborah Sabourin and her husband Ron Redmond of Essex Junction, Vermont; five grandchildren: Stewart and Megan Sabourin of Laval, Anthony and Sophia Hope and Liana Redmond of Essex Junction, Vermont; and her niece Danielle Sabourin of Ottawa.
Special thanks to the dedicated staff of Jewish General Hospital for their boundless love and commitment to Hazel.
A memorial service will be held at the Kane & Fetterly funeral home chapel, 5301 Decarie Blvd., (corner Isabella) on Thursday, December 21st at 2:00 p.m.
