VINET, Rudolph Joseph May 10, 1922 - July 26, 2016 On July 26, 2016, Rudy Vinet died peacefully at the age of 94. He will be cherished and remembered always by his wife Edith; his children Diana, Paul and Peter; their spouses Ken, Lorna and Diana; his grandchildren Jesse and Dylan; his brothers Rene and Norman; his sister Irene; his nieces and nephews Gary, Neil, Andrea, Lise, Matthew, Mark and Merrill; his extended family; and the Schulich family. Rudy was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his children, Jesse Florence, and his daughter Claire. Born in Montreal to Romuald Vinet and Flora Vinet (née Theriault), Rudy grew up with his sister and two brothers in Verdun. From his teens, he served his country in the Second World War as Sergeant in the 27th Anti-Tank Battery (RCA) in the Italian Campaign. A tank in Ortona, Italy, commemorating the infamous battle there, bears his name, honouring him and his fellow Canadian combatants. After the war, Rudy married Florrie, the love of his life, in England, raised his family in Montreal, and built a career in hi-fi electronics sales. Rudy was a gentleman of the old school and foremost a family man. For his family, he built with his bare hands a log cabin, and the road leading to it, managed a stable of horses for his daughters, and trailered them to horse shows on request! He gave back to the community in many ways and cherished the time he spent as a mentor with the young men of the Sea Rovers. Rudy was an avid reader and gardener, and in his retirement years, shared his love of travel with his wife Edith Schulich. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the wonderful men and women who assisted him over the past few years, the Ste. Anne de Bellevue Veterans' Hospital for their compassionate care during his last year, and to the Schulich family who brightened his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Kane Fetterly Funeral Home Chapel, 5301 Boulevard Decarie (corner Isabella), followed by Interment at Field of Honour, 703 Avenue Donegani, Pointe-Claire, H9R 5G6.
