Dear Patel Family and Friends,

My condolences for your loss. Sarala was a wonderful, kind and generous person with a great personality and smile. It was a pleasure to know her albeit too short.

I’m so sorry to hear about my friend Sarala. She was there when I started at Peter Hall, she taught me through the love of “her” kids and her patience. She was there 28 years ago at our wedding, and she was there for the birth of our children. She was also there for me when we had to battle both our cancers...we survived and we conquered!! We worked, ate (especially the fabulous food she prepared ), and celebrated, and we laughed (I’m going to miss that laugh..). When she would call me to talk about her next destination....
(Sarala in Timbuktu ~ can you believe it!!). It’s all because of you my friend that I succumbed to the love of travelling! I know you’ll always keep an eye on the people you loved!
Bon voyage my friend❤️

My memories of Sarala will always be cherished ones. When I first arrived at Peter Hall School, it was Sarala who took me under her wing. We worked together for over 2 years with our darling little munchkins before Sarala took her retirement. She made sure I felt welcome among the staff and even encouraged me to volunteer at the Wine and Cheese even though I was new and was very shy. I have only happy memories with Sarala and fun memories. One which will always stand out and that to this day makes me laugh was of the 2 of us hauling out a microwave from our classroom to the outside because Sarala had a knack for burning her toast in the microwave in the morning. To not get into any trouble for having the hallways smell like smoke again, we decided to unplug the microwave and secretly steal it outside to let out all the smoke. Unfortunately for us, once we opened the door to the microwave and a big bellow of smoke came out, all that smoke wafted back inside the school through the open side door. lol Oh the memories ...
There really was no one else like Sarala. I cannot say how much she meant to me, as a mentor and as my dear friend. I will miss her deeply. The kindness in her heart to every child that came across her path, to every individual she met, will stay as an inspiration to all of us.
As you soar to a beautiful place, may peace and love follow you my beautiful Sarala. xox

May her soul rest in eternal peace and May the lord grant the family immense strength to bear this loss. Ameen

A poem by Rumi to console the family...

When I die
when my coffin
is being taken out
you must never think
i am missing this world

don't shed any tears
don't lament or
feel sorry
i'm not falling
into a monster's abyss

when you see
my corpse is being carried
don't cry for my leaving
i'm not leaving
i'm arriving at eternal love

when you leave me
in the grave
don't say goodbye
remember a grave is
only a curtain
for the paradise behind

you'll only see me
descending into a grave
now watch me rise
how can there be an end
when the sun sets or
the moon goes down

it looks like the end
it seems like a sunset
but in reality it is a dawn
when the grave locks you up
that is when your soul is freed

have you ever seen
a seed fallen to earth
not rise with a new life
why should you doubt the rise
of a seed named human

have you ever seen
a bucket lowered into a well
coming back empty
why lament for a soul
when it can come back
like Joseph from the well

when for the last time
you close your mouth
your words and soul
will belong to the world of
no place no time

We are always saddened by the death of a good person and a good friend. It is from this sadness that a feeling of gratitude emerges. We feel honored to have known Sarala and blessed her passing serves as a reminder to us that out time on this beautiful earth is limited and that we should seize the opportunity we have to forgive, share, explore, and love. We can think of no greater way to honor Sarala than to live this way for she exemplified all these qualities to the fullest.
