NANCY ESTELLE GALLOP
(1938-2021)

Nancy Estelle Gallop, of Westmount and Lacolle, Quebec, died unexpectedly on February 20, 2021. She is survived by her husband John; together they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2020. She also leaves her three children: Mark (Lindsay), Liane (Bill), and Keith (Joanne), four grandchildren: Clara and Rae Congdon, and Allegra and Henry Gallop, and her brother, Alan.  She was the daughter of Montague and Lorna (Herdman) Willis. Nancy was a graduate of Westmount High School and Bishop’s University.

Her quiet nature belied her industriousness and the impact she had on her family, friends, and wider community. Volunteerism drove her dedicated support of many organizations and charities, especially the Junior League of Montreal and St. Matthias’ Anglican Church where she guided the choir committee on trips to England and record album fundraisers, and served as a church Warden.  More recently, she could be found behind the cash register at the Montreal General Hospital’s Hospitality Corner every Tuesday morning.

After graduating motherhood, Nancy commenced several new vocations including 20+ years working for Westmount High School and 21 special needs schools as an Administrative Technician where she managed the enrolment, scheduling and report cards.

She was a long-time needlework enthusiast and met with her needlepoint group on Wednesdays for close to 50 years. She was co-owner of the Brickpoint Studios needlework store in Westmount during that time. Despite her many Montreal interests and connections, Nancy was always happiest at the family country place on Lake Champlain at Lacolle, now approaching 130 years of family ownership.

We are all grateful to the many friends and caregivers who assisted her through the pandemic restrictions of the past year, especially Flo and Olivia. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Donations to Prospect-Belvedere Services Corp., a charity providing safe, low-cost housing to people with mental health issues, would be gratefully appreciated. Nancy was a dedicated Board Member for 35 years.
