The family of Avis Maxine Halfkenny, age 83, is saddened and heartbroken to announce her sudden passing on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
Avis passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Father Dowd Seniors Residence, Cote-des-Neiges, Montreal.
Born and raised in Truro, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Maxwell William Halfkenny and Grace Lenore Halfkenny (Mentis).
She was a Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt, Cousin and a Friend to all.
Avis moved to Montreal, Quebec in 1965, and made it her home. Along with family and friends, she enjoyed the active and upbeat multicultural community of Cote-des-Neiges for the next 56 years.
The neighborhood was safe, close knit and offered a sense of belonging. Everyone was friendly and doors were never locked, especially hers. Many friends and family were showered with her kindness and compassion, offering up great meals, accommodations, and conversation for anyone who dropped in.
She enjoyed reading, was an avid card player and loved music. Music, however, was her absolute favorite pastime, whether listening, dancing, or singing, it was all the same and all good. She was fun, loving and a joy to be around.
Besides her parents, Avis was predeceased by her sons Maxie and Lance.
Avis is survived by her children: Verna, Leslie, and Sheldon.
Sisters: Verna and Doris.
Grandchildren: Candice, Raeleen, Cameo, Ashton, Tyla and Dylan.
Great Grandchildren: Max, Benjamin, Mia, Ava, and Kiara.
Niece: Velvet.
Nephews: Shane, Craig, Scott, Derek, and Carlos.
Great nieces, nephews as well as many loving close relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a huge gratitude to Viola who was there every step of the way. Her care giving, compassion, kindness and selflessness was unwavering. May she always be blessed.
Additionally, we would like to thank the staff at Father Dowd Seniors Residence for their support, dedication, and hard work over the years. What an amazing team.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.
