Helen King

February 8, 1956 - September 25, 2021

Helen King left this world as she had lived, with grace and dignity, surrounded by her children, their father and his partner, friends and professionals who held vigils throughout her final week.

Helen was wise and caring and interested in everyone she met.  She was greatly admired by the many professionals who were part of her middle and later life due to the several medical challenges she faced with courage, resilience, determination and nobility.  “She is a winner” said one of her longstanding doctors, “an energizer bunny” said another impressed by her steadfast perseverance, and all doctors, social workers and therapists throughout the years always added, “a great pleasure to serve”.

She is survived by her adored and adoring children, Emma and Joshua Lapin, her siblings, whom she loved: Sandra, Brian (Louise Johnson) and Paul (Olga Skika), by her former husband, Tim Lapin and his partner, Janet Watson, and  by her many nieces, nephews and cousins whose lives she followed, joyfully, online. Helen is predeceased by her loving and supportive parents, Alan McLeod King and Geraldine McKinnon.

Helen King was a proud member of the Royal Montreal Curling Club for many years with great memories made on and off the ice.

Her ashes will be laid by the river behind her family’s former Meadowbank farm in PEI, joining those of her parents.

A celebration of Helen ‘s life will be held on October 16, 2021 at 2 p.m. for family, friends and professionals at Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Décarie Blvd. H3W 3C4 . Those wishing to attend, in person or online, may contact josh.lapin@gmail.com or annsoden@sympatico.ca.

In lieu of flowers, would you please consider a donation in Helen King’s memory to fund the innovative research of the Kidney Foundation of Canada.

Rest gently dear Helen.
