It is with sadness that we announce the death of Mr. Tony Shorgan at Montréal, January 6th , 2019 at the age of 97.
He leaves in mourning his daughters, Noëlla Shorgan and Estelle Coleman (John); his grandchildren, Christina Coleman (Ben), Danny Coleman (Kathryn), Ryan Parsons and Joey Coleman and his two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Jack. He lost his third daughter, Mary, at birth. He is survived by a sister, Yvette (Lucie), as well as many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
His life was dedicated to the cause of disabled children, serving many dozens of years as camp director and then executive director of the Quebec Society for Disabled Children. Active as well on many other community fronts, he was awarded the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award with his wife, Lucy, by Michaëlle Jean in 2006.
He was made a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International. His artistic talents in singing and art are well known.
The family will receive you on Saturday, January 12 at 10:00 at St Richard’s Church (7070 ch Guelph, Cote-St-Luc, H4W 1G9) followed by the funeral mass at 11:00. Burial will be private. Reception at 1:30 at the headquarters of the Quebec Society for Disabled Children, at 2300 blvd René-Levesque West, Montréal, H3H 2R5.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Papillon Foundation (2300 boulevard René Levesque West, Montreal, Qc, H3H 2R5) would be appreciated.
