HABER, Dr. Leo Richard “Rick”,
age 76, passed away suddenly on February 7, 2019 in Cozumel, Mexico, one of his favourite spots in the world. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of more than 52 years, Patricia-Ann (nee Dawson), his children Alexandria (Alain), Damian (Vanessa), Julian (Anne), Christopher (Paola), Dan and Jennifer (Alex), and his "adopted" daughter, Andrea; his grandchildren Zoe, Bella, Juana, Tobias, Declan, Oscar, Tessa, Agatha and soon-to-arrive Emmanuela, as well as numerous siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends, colleagues, current and former patients, and fellow members of St. Monica’s Parish.
Rick was born in Sherbrooke, Quebec, grew up in Burlington and Hamilton, Ontario, was educated at McMaster University and moved to Montreal with his young family in 1970 where he became a pillar of the community, a devoted pediatrician of more than 35 years’ experience, and a Roman Catholic deacon who enjoyed all of his religious duties, but most especially his role in baptizing babies — more than 500 children in over 30 years of service. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, none more so than his family, whom he cared for so deeply and loved so dearly, as they loved and continue to love him.
Viewings to be held at St. Monica’s Parish, 6405 Terrebonne St., Montreal, QC, H4B 1A8 on Monday, February 18, 2019 from 2:00 to 5:00pm, and from 7:00 to 9:00pm, with a prayer service at 8:00pm.
A funeral mass will be held at the same church on the following day, Tuesday, February 19, at 11:00am, to be followed by a reception in the church basement starting at 12:30pm. A graveside burial for family and close friends will take place following the reception.
The burial will be at Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery, 4601 Cote des Neiges, at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to either St. Monica’s Parish (www.stmonica.ca) or the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation (www.fondationduchildren.com) in Rick’s name would be gratefully received.
"No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it... White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise." — Gandalf, from The Lord of The Rings, by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Special thanks to his dear friends Fr. Ray, for his exceptional support in a time of great need; Manny, for his fortitude; and all of Rick and Patty-Ann’s friends in Cozumel who were there for them when they needed them most. "Well done, good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord.”
