KILKENNY, Carmel Mary.
Sept. 13, 1957 – Aug. 13, 2019
After a devastating diagnosis and heroic efforts on the part of Health Professionals at MUHC, our beloved Carmel succumbed to cancer surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Toronto, to Irish immigrant parents, Peter and Maeve Kilkenny, Carmel the eldest of 5 sisters, a graduate of Loretto College, made her way to Montreal where she settled near her Alma Mater, Concordia University.
She leaves a legacy of great scope as a journalist at CBC and Radio Canada International and recently and so happily at MCHF. Carmel has been a devoted member of St. Monica’s Parish. Most importantly she has been a loving Mother to her cherished daughters, a generous sister and a kind and thoughtful friend to so many.
Carmel is survived by her daughters Darragh and Edel and former spouse Robert Mondoux. She is mourned also by her sisters Una, Joanne, Nora, Paula and their families including cousins in Canada, Ireland and the US. A bounty of friends near and far will miss her greatly as well.
Visitation will be held at Kane & Fetterly, 5301 Decarie Blvd., (corner Isabella) on Sunday, August 18 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm. Requiem Mass to be celebrated at St. Monica’s Church, NDG, on Monday, August 19 at 10:00 am., followed by the burial at Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at MUHC for their compassionate care of Carmel throughout her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
