Obituary
Marjorie Thérien (née Pereda)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marjorie (Pereda) Thérien on Apr. 20, 2023, peacefully in her sleep, after 100 well-lived years. Marjorie was a well-loved and inspiring woman, who will be missed by many. Born at home in Montreal in 1922, she lived through the Great Depression as a teenager, worked in a uniform factory during World War II, and later worked as a comptometer operator for CN. She learned early to make the most out of what life gave her. In her twenties, she enjoyed travelling, skiing, and biking with her friends before marrying Jacques (Jack) in 1953. They enjoyed many wonderful years together, until his death in 1984. Marjorie generously devoted much of her time to volunteering, including at St. Patrick’s Basilica, St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen, and at St. Mary’s Radiology Department. She continued her love of travel well into her elder years. She especially enjoyed her trips to Nova Scotia where she was much cherished by the MacDonald in-laws. She was pre-deceased by her husband Jacques, and her brothers and sisters, Hortense, Manny, Frances, and Raymond, and many nephews, nieces and friends. She is survived by her daughter Joanne, son-in-law David, and her two grandchildren, Michael and Kelly, of whom she was especially fond and proud. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Apr. 25 from 2 pm to 5 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm, and a service will be held on Wednesday, Apr. 26 at 11 am, at Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mt. Sinai, CHUM, MUHC, and St. Mary’s hospitals for the excellent care Marjorie received, especially over the last few years. Marjorie requested that donations in her memory be made to the St. Patrick’s Soup Kitchen, care of St. Patrick’s Basilica, Montreal.
