Born on December 18th 1938 in Mariupol, Ukraine, Valerii Popov arrived in Montreal on March 27th 2022 from the war torn Ukraine. 

 After a short but fierce battle with cancer, he took his last breath at 11h10 PM on March 27th, 2024, at the age of 85. Loving husband of Lidia, former husband of Zinaida, proud father of Inna, father-in-law to Vaughan, caring dedushka to Alexandra and Nicolas, step-grandfather to Stephanie (Liam) and Marc (Evelyn) and best bud of the late Nicolai (Benia) Ushakov. 

Dedushka always kept his tail up and inspired us with his curiosity, intelligence, joie de vivre, sense of humour and resilience.

 Having escaped the horrors of war in Ukraine, he passed away penniless but the richest he had ever been in his entire life, surrounded as he was, by the love and care of his wife, daughter, grandchildren and new friends in Canada.

 Heartfelt thanks go to doctors Kudrina, Létourneau and Pertchenko, as well as the nurses and staff at the CHUM and CLSC Rosemont for their care and attention over the past few months.
