Obituary
Carol Tansey
It is with much sadness that we say good-bye to our beloved aunt, Carol Tansey, who died on October 21st, 2024, at 94 years old. She was born on December 13th, 1929, the fifth child of Charlotte Tansey, (née Hunter) and Michael E. Tansey. She was the last surviving member of that generation of her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Charlotte, Barbara (Ivor Wells, Alan Cooper) and Mary (William Summers), her brother Peter (Jane O’Neill) and nephews Stephen Wells and Nicholas Summers. She leaves to mourn 13 nieces and nephews and several grand nieces and nephews.
Carol was a talented cook, publishing several cookbooks with the help of her niece Jacqui. She won prizes for several of her delicious creations. She was relentless in her pursuit of justice. After her father was severely injured by a driver with no insurance, Carol became a driving force in getting no-fault insurance adopted in Quebec. She fought for higher standards of care while she was a nursing home resident, and she also showed great interest in the people who looked after her. She asked about their lives and cared about them. She was not afraid to challenge authority and frequently won her cases. Through it all, she kept her sense of humour. We admired her drive, competence and endurance.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Father Dowd Residential Centre and especially the staff who cared for her on the third floor where she was a resident for more than 15 years.
As per Carol’s wishes, a family service will be held at a future date.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Parkinson Canada (https://www.parkinson.ca/about-us/) or to a charity of your choice.
