It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Margarita Basilan, who left us on March 1, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on October 17, 1963, in Nabua, Philippines, to Epifanio Basilan and Susana Manugo, Mayet was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and love for those around her.
Mayet is survived by her brother Simon (Lilia), her sisters Rosa and Eufemia (Danilo), and her sisters-in-law Myrna and Rechilda. and was preceded in death by her brothers Marcelito, Augusto, and Delfin.
She leaves behind her nieces Mirasol, Mae, Janelle, her nephew Jay, her cousins Helen, Merly, Sally, Ruth, Rosie and many other cousins, nieces and nephews in the Philippines. She also leaves behind her dear friends Norma, Aida, Jun, Totoy, Elsie, Mabeth, Susan, Glo, Bolet, Cathy, Stanley, Gab, Lorna, Jun, Noemi, Camille, Fely, Avegail, Shirley, Tisoy, Nancy, Frank, Babette, Victor, Marissa, Junior, Delia, Sheila, Jeorge, Ganda, Dula, Eric, Jocelyn, the Nabuenos, the El Shaddai Brothers and Sisters in Christ and many others who gave their care, love and compassion when she needed somebody to lean on.
For 22 years, Mayet was considered family by Valérie and Anand as she lovingly cared for their daughters Frédérique, Olivia, and Emmanuelle as if they were her own. Her presence in their lives was a true blessing.
Throughout her life, Mayet was known for her warm heart, selfless nature, and dedication to family and friends. She found joy in bringing people together, offering support in times of need, and making those around her feel truly valued. Her legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their final respects and celebrate her life on March 15 and 16, from noon to 9 p.m., at Kane and Fetterly, 5301 boul Décarie, Montreal.
A special service in honor of Mayet's life will be held on March 15th at 7:30 PM.
Mayet will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who loved her.
