Obituary

Giuseppe Maffei

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Giuseppe Maffei on Saturday, March 29, at the age of 82.

Giuseppe will be deeply missed by his wife of 58 years, Maria Vani; his children, Paolo (Silvana) and Mario (Tanya); his beloved grandchildren, Sara, Rico, and Eva; as well as his brother Francesco, his sister Emilia, and numerous friends, colleagues, and extended family members. He is predeceased by his sister Adelaide, who passed away at a young age in Italy.

Giuseppe (Joseph) immigrated to Canada in 1955 when he was just 12 years old. He began working at a young age as a dishwasher in a Chinese restaurant. His life took a beautiful turn when he met Maria years later at a zipper factory where they both worked. They married in September of 1966, honeymooned in Italy, and soon after started their family. Together, they had two sons, Paolo and Mario, who later gave him three wonderful grandchildren whom he adored more than life itself. In 1973, Giuseppe began a 28-year career with CP Air, which later became Canadian Airlines and Air Canada. After retiring in 2001, he enjoyed the fruits of his labor by taking his family on many memorable vacations, including trips to Florida, Italy, and Hawaii.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Monica’s Church, 6405 de Terrebonne in Montreal, on Tuesday, April 8, at 11:30 a.m. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest at Cote des Neiges Cemetery at 1:30 p.m.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital for their dedicated care during his final days. A special thank you to his nurses, Michelle and Mary Lou, who were always just a phone call away, offering comfort and support from the beginning to the very end. A heartfelt thanks also goes to Serge, the CLSC nurse, who went above and beyond in caring for Giuseppe. Maria will always be deeply grateful to all of you for the care and compassion you showed.
