Obituary
Alan Dolan
Beloved husband of Patricia McGovern and cherished father to Emily (Steven) and Lucy (Carlos) and grandfather to Olive, Penelope and Charlie, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and daughters after a lengthy illness with prostate cancer which he battled with strength, patience and grace. Son of Olive Louvain Smith and Charles Stephen Dolan, and brother of the late Charles Dolan, Alan was born and grew up in Liverpool England. Having studied architecture at the University of Liverpool, Alan decided at the age of 24 to take Canada's offer of a free plane ticket and moved to Toronto in 1967. He spent his early years in Canada working as project manager for Sears Canada constructing a series of stores in shopping centres across Canada. Alan eventually convinced his brother Charles to join him in Canada and made their way to Montreal. With the skills they had acquired from their father a successful construction contractor in Liverpool they started their own construction business in the mid seventies, specializing in new residential construction and high-end renovations. His most proud accomplishment was the design and construction of the family country home near Montgomery Vermont. In addition to his design, construction and wood working skills, Alan was also an accomplished painter, avid reader and music lover. He also played soccer at a highly competitive level until his forties. After retiring from competitive soccer, Alan found more time for recreational golf and was a member for several years at the Whitlock Golf and Country Club in Hudson. The family would like to thank the team from the pilot project for home palliative care "Aux Trois Sentiers" who enabled Alan to spend his final days in the peace and comfort of home. Alan leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and many Liverpool Football Club fans. There will be a visitation at Kane and Fetterly from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a service on Friday June 20. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Aux Trois Sentiers is suggested Faire un don pour une fin de vie plus douce - Aux trois sentiers
