Obituary

Olive Diamandopoulos (née Kowalchuk)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Olga (Olive) Diamandopoulos passed away on January 28, 2023 in Phoenix, Arizona, surrounded by her children and friends.
Olive was born in Montreal, Quebec and grew up with her cousins, Billy and Wesley, who she held dear as brothers. She served in the Canadian Armed Forces and then went on to work in administrative roles, becoming successful as a young, independent woman before meeting her husband of 45 years, Anthony, who preceded her in passing.
The family moved to Greece where Olive really showed her warmth, generous and outgoing nature and creativity throughout her close involvement in the lives of her children and their friends, and in cultivating close family friendships that remain today. On their return to Canada, she took on several professional roles outside the home but none that she loved as much as her career as a florist. She was wonderfully creative throughout her life and continued to take great pleasure in the joy her creations could bring to others.
Unfortunately, Olive faced many health challenges after the passing of her husband and can only be remembered as remarkably brave, stoic and determined in the face of each. She moved to the US in the winter before the pandemic and remained in Arizona since. She conquered her own illness with Covid and courageously faced cancer a second time.
Her life has been rich and full of stories and even in her eighties, it was truly a pleasure each time to learn something new about Olive that her family'd never known before.
She and her children were blessed to have been able to spend time together in this past year and she became not just a mother and a grandmother but also a best friend. That time spent was immeasurably precious to all.
Ultimately, she passed away after a prolonged hospitalization and leaves behind all those whose hearts she touched deeply- her daughter, Laura and son, George. Her grandchildren, Julia and Anthony. Her daughter-in-law Karla and her family. Her friends and “adopted family” in Greece, Canada and now the US.
She will now be reunited with her beloved husband, who she'd missed every day since he passed but she will herself be greatly missed by those she's left behind.
A large part of our lives has gone but we know she is still with us in spirit and will continue to look for the beauty, grace and soft kindness we saw in her, in every lovely moment or being that crosses our paths to come.
A visitation will be held for family and close friends at the Kane Fetterly Funeral Home in Montreal on Friday, the 24th of February, 2023 from 6 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held in the chapel at Kane Fetterly in her honor at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 25th after which Olive will be laid to rest at the Mount Royal Cemetery.

Memorial flowers may be sent to Kane Fetterly funeral home, 5301 Decarie Blvd, Montreal, Quebec, H3W 3C4, Canada.
