It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother Bernadette Marie Blanche Lacroix Bjornson (June 6, 1937 to April 3, 2018).
Wife of the late Gerald Rurik Bjornson, she will be deeply missed by her daughter Karin Solveig (Roberto), her grandsons Lucas and Roman, her brothers Joe and Andy, her sister Marie Anne, and her beloved Irvin. She is predeceased by her brother Mathieu and her half-brothers and sisters. She lived her life fully, passionately, with great curiosity and openness, and without apology. Daughter of Paul Lacroix and Eleanor Bibeau, she grew up in Saint-Claude, Manitoba in a francophone household. Orphaned at 13 and torn from her siblings, her family and her language by the state, she spent much of her life ensuring she never forgot her roots and her identity. Loyal and devoted to her husband who was stricken with Parkinson ’s disease at age 31, she showed great courage and strength in caring for him throughout his illness. She will be remembered for her generosity, her kindness, her passion, her strong opinions, her love of the arts, her great cooking, her openness with people from all walks of life, her love of Montreal and its cafés, and espacially for her courage.
Visitation will take place on Thursday April 5, from 7 to 9 PM at Kane & Fetterly 5301 Boul Décarie, Montreal. The funeral service will be at the Lady Chapel of Saint-Patrick’s Basilica, 454 René Lévesque Boulevard West on Friday, April 6 at 10:30 am. The burial will be at Côte des Neiges cemetery. A reception to celebrate her life will take place after the funeral from 12:30 to 2:30 PM at Kane & Fetterly.
