Janina-Barbara “Basia” Pachulska-Stalica passed away on February 12, 2021 in the late afternoon at the Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen Site) in Montreal due to complications after suffering with progressive Alzheimer’s disease for several years. Her passing was gentle and peaceful surrounded by her immediate family.
Barbara was born on October 28, 1934 in the Polish city of Biała Podlaska. She was one of three daughters and two sons of Francizek and Aleksandra Pachulski (nee. Dzieciątko).
Barbara immigrated to Canada in the late 1950s, and lived in Renfrew, Ontario and Montreal. She worked as a Dietician’s Aid at the Royal Victoria Hospital in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In August 1964 she married Emil Stalica in Warsaw. They had their first child Jacek in 1965 at which point she decided to dedicate her life to being a wonderful wife and mother. Their 2nd child Magdalena was born in 1971.
Barbara returned to school completing her B.A. (Double Major English and French) at Concordia University in Montreal in 1988 and worked at Velan Inc. as an Administrative Assistant for 5 years in the 1990s.
Barbara was fiercely dedicated to her children and to cooking wonderful Polish delights. She had a melodious voice and enjoyed singing beautiful Polish carols at Christmas time. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she enjoyed knitting and tending her vegetable garden. She had an overwhelming love for all children that shone brightly even through her illness. We miss her love and presence immensely.
Barbara was predeceased by her father and her mother. She is survived by her husband Emil; her sisters Jadwiga and Danuta; her children Jacek (wife Gina) and Magdalena; and numerous nephews and nieces in Canada, Poland and America.
Funeral Services for Barbara will be private.
