1924 - 2018
Dick Groenewege passed away peacefully in the late evening of July 14, 2018, at the age of 93. Cherished husband of Margaret (Haagen) for 63 years and beloved father of Don (Irene Nasim). Born and raised in the Netherlands, Dick later began a long and successful career in aviation, his life-long passion, with KLM. Subsequently, he joined IATA, where he contributed his expertise for 35 years, both in Montreal and Geneva. He enjoyed his retirement years with Margaret in Montreal, authoring three editions of the Compendium of International Civil Aviation, mentoring students in his field at both McGill and Concordia Universities, as well as spending time with his friends and family.
After suffering a stroke last year, Dick made a valiant recovery, aided by the kind, compassionate and professional care received from all the staff at Château Westmount. In particular, the family would like to thank his primary caregivers (Meena, Claudette, Jenifer and Eve), his physiotherapist (Ivan), the 4th Floor nursing staff (Ovsanna, Anna, Angela and Jenny), and his physician (Dr. H. Dawang). We have warm memories of time spent together with Dad, including this past year, at the Residence garden and dining room, as well as outings to Westmount Park.
The family will receive condolences on Thursday, July 19, at Kane Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Décarie Boulevard, 514 481-5301, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A private family funeral will be held at a later date.
