On Saturday, January 12, 2019, Vittorio Ciampini passed away peacefully at CHSLD Bussey at the age of 93.
He was born in a small village in Italy and as a young man, he experienced a lack of opportunity and the hardships of war, prompting him to work as a coal miner in Belgium for 4 years. He immigrated to Canada in 1954 with his wife, Antonia, and their children Domenica, Francesco, and Giacomino (James) in pursuit of a better life. In the years that followed, Vittorio and Antonia welcomed their fourth child, Rosa.
Although his teachers encouraged him to pursue his education, family circumstances allowed him to only complete grade 5. However, possessing the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Samson, and unrelenting determination, he, along with the support of his wife, provided his family with a solid foundation based on strong family values, education and faith. We like to believe this was accomplished.
He was the cherished husband of Antonia D’Alesio for 71 years; beloved father of Domenica (late Rino), Francesco (Helen), James (Anna) and Rosa (Franco); devoted grandfather of Antonietta (Robert), Vittorio (Michèle), Vanessa (Mike), Jessica (Alexandre), Talia (Franco), Justin (Fauve), Vittorio Jean (Sophie), Jordan (Alice), Adam (Laura), Lucas (Tea) and Sara; adoring great-grandfather of Marco (Isabella), Carlo, Tayne, Angélique, Alexia, Ravyn, Miro, Emma, Noah, Michael, Éloi, Tyler, Olivia, Dante, Julian, Nicolas and Adrian. He is predeceased by his parents, Francesco and Emilia, sisters Domenica, Paolina (Domenico), and Anna (Lorenzo), brothers Leonardo (Lucia), Ignazio, and Liberato (Finalba). He will be sadly missed by his sister Vincenza (late Luigi), sisters-in-law Ernesta (late Ignazio), Maria (Mario), Assunta (late William), brothers-in-law Domenico (late Margherita), Berardino (Artemisia), Camillo (Enella), Guido (Bianca) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A very special thank you to the caregivers, nurses and staff at CHSLD Bussey for treating Vittorio with love and compassion.
The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Kane & Fetterly Funeral Home, 5301 Decarie Blvd., Montreal. The funeral service will be held on January 16, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Saint-Raymond-de-Pennafort, 5765 St-Jacques, Montreal and burial at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to CHSLD Bussey or Alzheimer Society.
